Charging your electric car in Kuwait
Public charging in Kuwait is still a developing network, so a bit of planning goes a long way. Check charging station availability along your route, note whether a station offers Level 2 or DC fast charging, and factor charging time into longer trips between cities. Charging costs vary by provider, so it's worth checking rates before you plug in.
FAQ – Renting an electric car with SIXT
The battery charge level is checked both when you collect the vehicle and when you return it.
- If the vehicle is handed over with more than 80% charge, you must return it with at least 80% charge.
- If it's handed over below 80%, you must return it at that same level.
If you can't charge the vehicle before returning it and haven't taken the prepaid charging option, you'll only be charged for the electricity (in kWh) needed to bring the battery back to its starting level, up to a maximum of 80%. Rates are available at the SIXT branch.
Yes. For more flexibility, SIXT offers a prepaid charging service. Choose this option when you book, and you can return the vehicle at any battery level — SIXT takes care of the recharge at a fixed rate.
Yes. Your electric vehicle rental includes two charging cables:
- A Type 2 cable, for public charging points at roadside stations, car parks, malls, and supermarkets.
- A domestic plug cable, for charging from a standard household outlet.
Fast-charging stations usually have their own built-in cable.
At pickup, SIXT gives you a partner charging card to link to your personal account. It's best to set up this account before your pickup date. The card gives you access to a wide network of charging points. You can also charge the vehicle from an ordinary household outlet or through any other provider you prefer. Keep the charging card until you return the vehicle.
You can find nearby charging points through our charging partner's app. Charging from a home outlet or through any other accessible provider is also an option.
Charging costs are the renter's responsibility. To make this easier, SIXT partners with a charging network operator, giving you straightforward access to a large number of charging points.
Rates vary by country and by operator. Charging is typically billed per kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumed or per minute of charging. In some cities, charging is bundled into parking fees.
An electric vehicle's range depends on several factors:
- Speed: driving fast, especially on the highway, increases consumption and reduces range. City driving at a moderate pace is generally more efficient.
- Weather: range is best around 20°C. In colder weather, the battery uses more energy to heat the cabin and keep itself at the right temperature.
- Driving style: gentle acceleration and making the most of regenerative braking help preserve range.
Electric vehicles offer a different driving experience compared to a conventional petrol car:
- Acceleration is quicker and smoother, thanks to instant torque and no gearbox.
- Driving is quiet: the electric motor produces almost no noise.
- Regenerative braking: as you slow down, the motor acts as a generator, converting kinetic energy back into electricity that partly recharges the battery. In some cases, this is strong enough to reduce how often you need the conventional brake.
